April 3, 2013
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Freshman Tori Smyth (Stamford, Conn.) continued a strong spring season with a come-from-behind win at No. 2 singles but Villanova (5-8) was defeated by Georgetown (12-4) at the West Campus Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. Smyth rallied to win her singles match and the Wildcats also scored one win in doubles play.
In the No. 2 singles match Smyth lost her opening set to Kelly Comolli by a 6-1 score. Smyth, however, had the final say and rallied for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory. Fellow first-year player Allison Kuse (Marietta, Ga.) also went to three sets in her match at No. 4 singles. Kuse lost the opening set to Sophie Panarese, 6-4, before rallying to take the second set by a 6-1 count. Panarese finished off the match by winning the third set, 6-2.
Senior Wesleigh Donadio (Winter Park, Fla.) and sophomore Kate Pettee (New Canaan, Conn.) defeated Panarese and Michelle Pratt, 8-1, in the No. 3 doubles match. The doubles point went to the Hoyas however, as they scored close wins in each of the first two doubles matches.
Villanova is back in action on Friday afternoon when it visits Seton Hall. That match begins at 1 p.m.
