Wildcats Ride Singles Victories to 4-3 Win Over Bucknell

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Strong singles play turned the tables for Villanova (3-8) in a 4-3 win over Bucknell (2-11) at the West Campus Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. All four team points for the Wildcats came as a result of victories in the singles matches.
In the No. 3 singles match freshman Sydney West (Washington, D.C.) registered her second win in as many days with a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Courtney Casey. Villanova also registered wins in the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles draws to clinch the team victory.
Sophomore Mikelle Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dumitrita Iepuras at the top singles spot, while junior Wesleigh Donadio (Winter Park, Fla.) won in straight sets over Christine Schneider at the No. 5 spot, 7-6 and 6-0. Senior Kristin Gobberg (Cary, Ill.) tallied the fourth win for the Wildcats over Elizabeth Morgan at No. 6 singles.
The visiting Bison claimed the doubles point as a result of a forfeit in the No. 3 doubles match. Villanova split the other two doubles matches that were played, including an 8-5 victory by Mancini and West over Daria Tuzhikova and Elena Vidrascu at the No. 1 spot.
Midweek matches against Quinnipiac and Bucknell showcased strong play throughout the lineup by the Wildcats, who are back in action for a busy upcoming weekend. Villanova will host St. Francis (Pa.) and Rider on Saturday, with those matches starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., in addition to playing Connecticut on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
