Villanova Women's Tennis Drops Two in California
March 13, 2003 Villanova, Pa. - Villanova women's tennis team traveled to California for a spring break road trip on March 3-7. The women's squad faced off against Vanguard University and Pt. Loma Nazarene falling to both west coast schools. The women took on Vanguard University on March 4. In what would be the closest match of the trip the 'Cats fell by one point 5-4. Villanova took two of the three doubles matches with the team of Jennifer Zick (Colts Neck, N.J. / St. John Vianney) and Courtney Flezzani (Pfafftown, N.C. / R.J. Reynolds) winning 9-8. The team of Erica Walter (Mount Laurel, N.J. / Bishop Eustace) and Morgan Flezzani (Pfafftown, N.C. / R.J. Reynolds) pulled out a convincing 8-0 victory in the final doubles match of the day. The Wildcats won two singles matches as senior Kelly McAndrew (Barrington, R.I. / Barrington) was victorious 6-0 and 6-1 and freshman Lindsey Puchyr (Allentown, Pa. / Parkland) won 6-0 and 6-2. Against Pt. Loma Nazarene Puchyr and McAndrew were once again victorious 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively. The doubles team of Jessie Rybacki (Salisbury, Md. / Wicomico) and C. Flezzani won 8-6. As a team Villanova lost 3-6 to the California team of Pt. Loma.
The two losses drops the 'Cats record to 3-6 on the season. Up next is a home match with Georgetown on March 22 at noon.
