Women Defeat Fairfield, Lose to James Madison in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. - Led by Candice Carlin (Moorestown, N.J.) at No. 1 singles, the women's tennis squad defeated Fairfield University, 6-1, on March 10 during its spring break trip to Florida. Earlier in the week, the women fell to James Madison, 6-1, and Grand Valley State, 6-3.

Carlin cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles and teamed up with Courtney Flezzani (Pfafftown, N.C.) to win their No. 1 doubles match, 8-5. Flezzani also won her singles match, rallying for a three-set victory at No. 2.

Villanova (4-3) won each of its singles matches versus the Stags, with Leighann Reilly, Morgan Flezzani, Lindsey Puchyr and Zoe Murray each winning their singles matches.

Fairfield won matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, defeating Reilly and Morgan Flezzani, and Taryn Cappellini and Kaite Flezar.

The Wildcats received their only points from Carlin in their loss to James Madison. Carlin won her singles match and paired up with Flezzani again for another doubles win.

Villanova won two singles matches versus Grand Valley State with Carlin winning at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1, and Leighann Reilly winning at No. 3, 7-6, 6-1. In doubles action, Carlin and Flezzani won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. The women will return home to host Georgetown on Saturday, March 19 at noon.
