On Monday, March 3, the Villanova women's tennis team traveled to Cal Poly, Calif. where they opened up their Spring Break tournament against the #16 nationally ranked Cal Poly Broncos. The Wildcats were defeated 8-1 for their first loss of the 2001-02 season. With the loss, Villanova to 6-1 on the year while Cal Poly improves to 10-1.

The lone bright spot for Villanova was the play of freshman Courtney Flezzani who tallied her twelfth victory of the season at the No. 4 spot. Flezzani dropped Cal Poly's Lisa Jones in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. In other action, seniors Ashley Young and Julie Darne were defeated at the top two spots, respectively, in straight sets.

The Wildcats will get back into action on Friday, March 8 when they travel to Point Loma, Calif. to square off against Point Loma College.
