Wildcats Top Vanguard, 7-2, For First Win of Season

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Villanova (1-4) scored its first dual match win of the season with a 7-2 decision against Vanguard (4-7) at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center on Monday afternoon. In the victory the Wildcats swept the three matches in doubles play and also won four of the six singles matches.
Junior Mikelle Mancini (Salt Lake City, Utah) was a winner at each of the top matches in singles and doubles play. She teamed with freshman Tori Smyth (Stamford, Conn.) for an 8-2 win over Juliet Labarthe and Michaele Sullivan at No. 1 doubles, then defeated Labarthe later in a No. 1 singles match by set scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
The other double winner for the Wildcats was sophomore Kate Pettee (New Canaan, Conn.), who was victorious at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles. She combined with senior Wesleigh Donadio (Winter Park, Fla.) for an 8-2 win in the third doubles match and also scored a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Melanie Parker in her singles match.
