Softball Signs Three Student-Athletes to National Letters of Intent

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Head coach Maria DiBernardi has announced that Emily Estroff, Sydney Hayes, and Sara Kennedy have signed national letters of intent to join the Villanova softball program next year. “We are extremely happy to welcome the class of 2022! We have 3 very talented young ladies that help with a smoother transition when this strong senior class graduates.” Head coach Maria DiBernardi on the new recruits.

Emily Estroff—Monarch High School—Hometown: Coconut Creek, Florida

Estroff has earned a various amount of athletic awards at Monarch High School including being on First-Team All-County for Broward County in Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald from 2015-2017. She has also helped lead the Monarch High School softball team to two District Championships in 2015 and 2016. She has been named defensive MVP three years in a row from 2015-2017 and led the team in batting average and in on base percentage. As a pitcher she has thrown five perfect games and three no hitters. She has had two amazing seasons first in 2016 when she recorded 215 strikeouts and earned a .496 batting average. Then in 2017 she recorded 200 strikeouts, earned a .471 batting average, and a .566 on base percentage.

Sydney Hayes—Daniel Boone High School—Hometown: Douglassville, Pennsylvania

Hayes has received a wide array of athletic honors while she was at Daniel Boone High School including being a two-time recipient of being selected Softball All County and 1st Team All-State (2016-2017). She holds three varsity letters (2015-2017) and was awarded a Softball All Division selection in 2015. As a hitter she had a career total of 15 homeruns and batted over .500 each year from (2015-2017). Positions that she plays include shortstop, third base, and center field.  On the academic side, Hayes has made the school honor roll all four years (2014-2018).

Sara Kennedy—Newtown High School—Hometown: Newtown, Connecticut      

Kennedy has been awarded with various amounts of athletic and academic honors during her high school career. She was named Varsity Softball Captain in 2017 and remains captain through 2018. She was named to the South Western Conference All-Colonial Division Team in 2015, named to the Varsity Softball All-State Team in 2016, named to the South Western Conference All-Conference Team in 2016. Led team to winning a SWC Championship in 2015 and 2016. Kennedy has also earned four varsity letters (2015-2018). Some of her stats include earning the most hits with 46 in 2015 and her highest batting average was .511 in 2015. The positions she plays currently are pitcher and second base.

Academically, Kennedy is a three year member of the National Honor Society (2016-2018), a four year honor roll student (2015-2018), was named to the Varsity Softball All-Conference Academic team in 2016, and earned the Western Studies Academic Achievement Award in 2015.

“Sara a right handed pitcher throws in the mid 60's and will add some depth to our pitching rotation. She is also capable of playing second base and is known to have good speed as a baserunner. “-- Head coach Maria DiBernardi
