VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova softball team anticipates another successful season as they released their final schedule of play Wednesday afternoon. The slate consists of four early-season tournaments and has the Wildcats playing in 21 home contests throughout the season.
The Wildcats will get their start to 2013 with a series of tournaments beginning with the FGCU/La Quinta Inns and Suites Tournament (Feb. 22-24), followed by the UCF Spring Fling (Mar. 1-3), USF Underarmour Invitational (Mar. 8-10) and the Delaware Spring Invitational (Mar. 15-17).
Villanova sees its first BIG EAST competition early in the season during a three-game series at Georgetown (Mar. 23-24) and also in their first and only home competition of March in a three-game series against USF (Mar. 27-28).
The Wildcats will go on to host 11 home games in April against La Salle (Apr. 1), Monmouth (Apr. 13), Temple (Apr. 23) and Drexel (Apr. 30) and versus conference opponents Rutgers (Apr. 10) and Louisville (April 20-21). Last season, the 'Cats were 7-9 when they had the home advantage.
Softball is scheduled to face four conference rivals on the road at Georgetown (Mar. 23-24), Notre Dame (Apr. 6-7), Syracuse (Apr. 17) and Providence (Apr. 27-28). Villanova finished with a 6-16 record in the BIG EAST in 2012.
The regular season rounds out with back-to-back series against Delaware (May 1) and BIG EAST foe St. John's (May 4-5) on their home field.
Upon the conclusion of the regular-season contests, the Wildcats will head to Clearwater, Fl. for the BIG EAST Tournament on May 9-11.
