Speicher Named to GTE Academic All-American Third Team

Villanova, Pa.--- Villanova University outfielder/designated hitter Regina Speicher put together an outstanding junior campaign not only on the field for the Wildcats, but in the classroom as well. Speicher was recently named to the GTE Academic All-American third team, after being named to the GTE Regional All-Academic Softball Team in May.

Speicher is a mathematics major at Villanova and has compiled a 3.81 GPA. On the field, she has been just as spectacular. Speicher was named to the All-Big East first team in 1999, in addition the garnering NFCA Northeast Region first team accolades.

A Wildcat captain, Speicher started in 47 of the team's 58 games in 1999, helping lead Villanova to a school record 42 victories. She finished the year fourth on the team in batting (.341), second in doubles (14), first in walks (20), and third in slugging (.516) and on-base percentage (.440). Speicher also tallied 20 runs scored, one triple, two home runs and 22 RBI in 1999.

Speicher hails from Brackney, Pa., where she was an All-State softball performer.
