VILLANOVA, PA. --- Post-season honors continue to pile up for two members of the 2002 Villanova softball team. Juniors Sara Carlson (Langley, B.C.) and Theresa Hornick (Edmonds, Wash.) were both named to the 2002 All-Region Softball Team. Carlson, selected to the First Team All-Northeast Region, recently received First Team All-Big East honors. Hornick, the 2002 Big East Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Big East member, received Second Team All-Northeast Region honors.

Carlson, who started all 60 games this season, led the Wildcats with a .383 average overall and a .455 average in Big East games only. She currently holds the Villanova career home run record (19) after hitting three homers this season to go along with 16 doubles and two triples for a .544 slugging percentage. Defensively, as Villanova's second baseman, she posted the second best fielding percentage ever by a Wildcat infielder (.986).

Carlson currently ranks in the top-five among Villanova's career leaders in three categories: doubles (37, 2nd), RBI (112, 4th) and runs scored (89, 5th). It marks the third time in three years she has been named to the All-Region Team, and second consecutive year she was voted to the First Team.

Hornick, the ace of the Wildcat pitching staff, tied a single-season school record posting 22 wins with a 1.32 earned run average. Hornick, the 2002 Big East Preseason Pitcher of the Year, struck out 209 batters in 206.2 innings and led the Big East in strikeouts (103), appearances (19), and opponents' batting average (.131) in conference games only.

Hornick pitched the third no-hitter of her career versus Connecticut on April 29 and tied a Villanova single-game record with 16 strikeouts versus Princeton on April 4. With her 209 strikeouts this season, Hornick became only the third pitcher in the program's history to record more than 200 strikeouts in a season. Hornick also received First Team honors last season.

The two players led the Wildcats to a second place finish in the conference and their third consecutive Big East Championship appearance at Villanova (45-15, 14-6 Big East). The 45 wins is also a new record.
