Player Focus Article - Carrie Walpole
April 29, 2000
If you've been to a Villanova Softball game within the past 3 years, and witnessed the plate umpire make a questionable call, chances are you've seen "it". You know what I'm talking about, the famous "Walpole Strut". Although humorous, it is a perfect example of Carrie Walpole's confidence, determination, and "never settle for less than you deserve" personality. Described as "crazy, sexy, and cool" by fellow pitcher Faith Meisinger, Walpole easily earns the respect of her teammates. With her outstanding confidence and leadership qualities, the program expects big things this spring from the senior Miami native. Coming off a superb 1999 season, it is expected of Walpole to put up even better numbers and be an integral part of Villanova's potent pitching and rotation. She also is invaluable off the mound as well, providing guidance to the other pitchers or simply serving as a role model. Freshman pitcher Theresa Hornick states, "I admire #13 a lot because she knows when to have fun and when to be serious. She is a leader in her own way and is full of life." Praise continues to flow from the mouths of the coaching staff as Maria DiBernardi and Linda Goss add, "We are so excited to watch Carrie pitch this season. She has worked hard to improve her game, and her hard work is going to pay off. Carrie spends a lot of time making sure that her fellow pitchers continue to improve as well, this makes her a great leader." Without a doubt, Carrie Walpole adds a whole new dimension of talent and charisma to the team. Simply put, according to Faith Meisinger, "What a gal!"
