Villanova, Pa. – The Villanova softball team (25-14) will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson (2-25) on Thursday for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Villanova most recently split a doubleheader with Monmouth on Tuesday, and Fairleigh Dickinson is in action today at UConn.
Head Coach Maria DiBernardi is in her 33rd season at Villanova. During her time on the Main Line, DiBernardi has compiled an 843-728-10 record. She picked up her 800th career victory last season in an 8-7 victory over St. John’s on April 2.
Four For O’Donnell
Associate head coach Jessica O’Donnell returns for her fourth season on the Villanova coaching staff. O’Donnell aids DiBernardi with the day-to-day operations of the program, along with leading the infielders and catchers.
New Coach In The Dugout
Stephanie Sanders is in her first season as an assistant coach at Villanova. Sanders spent last season as an assistant at Saginaw Valley State and is a 2015 graduate of Michigan State, where she was a key utility player on the softball team.
Last Time Out
Villanova won the first game of a doubleheader against Monmouth, before falling in the second game. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Wildcats. Brette Lawrence picked up her 17th win on the mound in the first game, and Lauren Herschberg recorded her 47th double, and she is now tied for third all-time in career doubles at Villanova.

Fairleigh Dickinson is 2-25 on the year, and the Knights are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak. The team will play at UConn on Wednesday before the doubleheader with Villanova on Thursday. Lauren Herschberg has a .358 batting average with 44 hits, 33 runs, 23 RBIs, nine doubles and five home runs. On the mound, Brette Lawrence is 17-7 with a 2.67 ERA, which leads the BIG EAST Conference. Lawrence has struck out 134 batters in 146.2 innings of work.
As a team, Villanova leads the BIG EAST Conference in ERA (3.58), fielding percentage (.973), and winning percentage (.641).
