VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova (27-18, 1-10) will take on BIG EAST foe St. John's (15-29, 3-8) this weekend at the Villanova Softball Field, but there has been a slight change to the schedule. The teams were originally slated to play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, but due to impending bad weather on Sunday, that game has been moved to Friday, April 20th at 3 pm.
The weekend series is also the Wildcats annual Score for the Cure series where every run will equal a monetary donation to breast cancer research.
The Wildcats will look to build off of last week's first BIG EAST win over Rutgers against the Red Storm this weekend. Villanova is still among the conference leaders in many categories offensively, including leading the BIG EAST in hits (367). They are still in 2nd in the league in average (.303), runs (202), doubles (58), total bases (477), and triples (8). They are led by senior Jamie O'Hara who is 3rd in the league in hitting at .384. Senior designated player Molly Manning leads the team in RBIs (26) and is the 7th toughest player in the country to strike out. Manning and fellow senior pitcher Caitlyn Delahaba will look to shut down some powerful St. John's bats.
The Red Storm have pounded out 34 home runs this season with nine coming off the bat of Kacee Cox. As a team St. John's hits .266. In the circle, Ashley Beza leads the Red Storm in all signifcant pitching categories while compiling 166 innings in the circle.
Also this weekend, Villanova will be honoring Coach Maria DiBernardi between games of the doubleheader on Saturday.
