VILLANOVA, Pa. - With a 6-3 Conference mark, the Villanova softball team sits atop the Big East South Division. At 26-12 overall the Wildcats and several of the team's players also rank among the nation's statistical leaders.
Villanova ranks No. 16 in the nation in batting with a .308 average. The Wildcats have seven players hitting above the .300 mark, led by senior Jessica DeLuca who is batting .379 (47-for-124) through 38 games. Freshman Jackie Pasquerella is right behind DeLuca with a .378 average (34-for-90), as she has started 36 of the Cats 38 games at thirdbase.
Pitching has been a key component to the Villanova arsenal in 1998. As a team, the Wildcats have limited opponents to a .182 batting average and 1.47 runs per game. Sophomore Carrie Walpole has been the staff leader with a 0.70 ERA, placing her eighth in the country in that category.
A key starter and bullpen ace, senior Brenda Roach as done everything for the Villanova staff this season. She currently leads the Wildcats in victories with eight and in saves with three. With three saves, Roach is tied for sixth in the country in that category.
