Villanova Softball Ranked Fourth in Region
April 7, 1999 In the latest NCAA Regional Division I women's softball biweekly poll released on Wednesday, March 31, the Villanova University softball team was ranked number four in the Northeast region, trailing only the University of Massachusetts, Hofstra University, and Boston University. The Wildcats, under the direction of 15th-year head coach Maria DiBernardi, currently own a 22-7-2 record, good for a .759 winning percentage. Within their region, Villanova is a slightly better 20-6-2 (.769 win pct.). Numerous different players have led Villanova to their fine start. Statistical leaders on the team include Mia Brickhouse (.500 batting avg., 30 runs, 4 triples, 18 stolen bases), Megan O'Leary (33 RBI, 6 HR's, 13 doubles, 11 walks, .734 slugging pct.), Regina Speicher (.508 on-base pct.), Carrie Walpole (1.49 ERA, 75 1/3 inning pitched, .178 opponents' batting avg.), and Keri Stoller (10 wins, 102 strikeouts, 2 shutouts, 2 saves). The 'Cats look to continue their outstanding play this coming weekend when they face the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 10, and Notre Dame University (No. 8 in the Mideast region) on Sunday, April 11 in doubleheader action.
