Fujii and Poppe Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Briana Fujii and Kate Poppe have both been named to the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll list as announced by the conference Monday morning. The girls notched spots on the list for their outstanding play this past weekend at the USF Under Armour Showcase. Fujii led the team with a .538 batting average and four RBI's. Poppe had another strong performance on the mound and ended the weekend 3-0 with 17 strikeouts.
Fujii (San Jose, Calif.) registered seven hits in 13 at bats during the five-game tournament at USF. She led the team with a .538 batting average, while racking up four RBI's and one double. Fujii recorded a .615 slg% and went perfect with no errors at third base.
Poppe (Downingtown, Pa.) finished the weekend with a 3-0 record as Villanova's ace pitcher for the weekend. She struck out 17 batters and maintained a 1.35 ERA during her 20.2 innings pitched. Poppe gave up 18 hits and 4 runs against the 86 batters she faced. This is her second appearance on the Honor Roll this season. The Wildcats are 8-3 when Poppe is on the mound.
The conference also named Seton Hall's Yasmin Harrell and USF's Sara Nevins and Kenshyra Jackson to the Honor Roll list.
Notre Dame's Laura Winter was selected as the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week and Louisville's Alicja Wolny was named as the conference's Player of the Week.
Fujii, Poppe and the rest of the Wildcats (8-7) return to action this Friday, March 15th, when they take on Hartford in their first game of the Delaware Spring Invitational in Newark, Del.
