Jan. 29, 2013
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Wildcats were picked to finish 11th in the conference as announced by the BIG EAST Monday afternoon in their 2013 BIG EAST Softball Preseason Poll. This is the second straight year Villanova was tabbed to finish 11th among the 13 teams in the conference.
Villanova will rely heavily on their returners from last season as well as their nine newcomers to step up in taking the place of six players who graduated. The Wildcats finished 32-24 overall and 6-16 in the BIG EAST last season and are looking to make headway in the conference in 2013 under the guidance of Head Coach Maria DiBernardi as she enters into her 29th season at Villanova.
USF received the most votes in the preseason poll and was predicted to finish first in the BIG EAST followed by Notre Dame, Louisville, DePaul, Syracuse, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, St. John's, Connecticut, Providence, Villanova, Seton Hall and Georgetown to round out the preseason ranks.
The Wildcats will get their start to prove themselves on the field when they travel to Fort Meyers, Fla. to participate in the FGCU/La Quinta Inn and Suites tournament February 22-24. Their first game is Friday, February 22 at 10 AM against Albany.
