Box Score

Villanova, Pa. - In game two a doubleheader with the Temple Owls, the Villanova Wildcats banged out nine hits and scored runs in four different innings on their way to a 5-1 victory to earn a split of the two games.

Meghan Morese matched her RBI total from game one with two more in game two, giving her the team lead with 29 on the year. Jess O'Boyle, Carolyn Brown and Lisa Curran all collected two hits in the game for the `Cats, with Curran's double in the fourth driving in a run.

Villanova (25-27-1) jumped on the board in the first with a two out RBI single from Morese that caught the third base line on its way to the outfield.

A great piece of baserunning by Danielle Maricle put up Villanova's second run of the game in the second inning. Maricle reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Carolyn Brown followed with a single to right field, advancing Maricle to third base. The throw in to the infield from right field got away, allowing Maricle to cross the plate.

The Wildcats extended their lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Curran and a sharp single up the middle from Sheri Donley to give them a 4-0 lead.

They would add an insurance run in the sixth inning on a sac fly from Morese to plate the fifth and final run for Villanova.

Temple (16-18) would get their only run in the seventh with a solo home run from Krystle Metzler.

All the Villanova runs were in support of Nicci Ward (5-7) who had the Temple batters baffled for almost the entire game. Ward would go the distance in the circle for the `Cats to pick up the win, allowing one run on just two hits while striking out seven. It was her second complete game victory in as many starts for Villanova.

The win over the Owls was the first for the Wildcats since game two of a doubleheader in 2004.

Villanova will close out the regular season this weekend hosting DePaul on Saturday and Notre Dame on Sunday.

Prior to the first game on Saturday against DePaul, the Wildcats will honor their two seniors, Sheri Donley and Cassie Koenig, for their hard work and dedication to Villanova softball. The Senior Day ceremony is slated to begin around 11:45 AM with the first pitch scheduled for Noon.
