Pittsburgh, Pa. - The first game of the Wildcats doubleheader at Pittsburgh saw Villanova struggle with their pitching at times, and the Panthers would take advantage. Pitt scored four runs in an inning twice on their way to an 11-3 win.

Pittsburgh (19-31, 5-11) started the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run from Jessica Dignon to center field, her first home run of the season.

Villanova (23-24-1, 4-11) opened the top of the second inning with back to back walks by Jess O'Boyle and Eryn Teague to put two runners on with no outs. But Pittsburgh starting pitcher was able to buckle down and get the next three batters in order to retire the side.

Pitt got back in the scoring column with four runs in the bottom of the second, but only one was earned following a throwing error that allowed the inning to continue.

After the Panthers got an RBI single in the third to take a 6-0 lead, the Wildcats broke into the scoring column in the next half inning.

With one out in the fourth, Danielle Maricle drilled her first home run as a Wildcat over the left center field fence to cut the Pitt lead to 6-1. Later in the inning, Sheri Donley laced double into left center that allowed Kayla Felty to score from first base for the Wildcats' second run of the game.

Pitt would get one run back in the bottom of the inning to push the lead back to five runs at 7-2.

In the top of the fifth, Villanova loaded the basees with one out thanks singles by Cassie Koenig and O'Boyle. But Pitt was able to work out of the jam by getting a strikeout and a lineout to end the threat.

But the `Cats would strike in the sixth inning when pinch hitter Maggie Seidel hit her second home run of the year well over the left field fence to close the Wildcats to within 7-3.

However, the Panthers offense was still not done, as they would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to invoke the eight run mercy rule.

Laura Determan (14-12) started for the Wildcats and pitched an inning and two thirds, allowing five runs, but just one earned to take the loss. She gave up three hits while striking out four and walking two.

Nicci Ward, Megan Hord and Eryn Teague combined to pitch the final 4.0 innings and allowed only two hits, but were done in by issuing 10 walks combined.
