Big Third Inning Lifts Notre Dame over Villanova

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Villanova softball team lost at Notre Dame 3-0 on Sunday, April 26, despite a brilliant pitching performance by freshman Keri Stoller. The Fighting Irish scored all three runs in a third inning spurt, to send the Wildcats home with their third straight loss dropping their record to 34-17 overall and 8-6 in Big East Conference play.

Stoller (10-10) took the loss pitching the complete game for Villanova, and surrendering only three runs on six hits, striking out five while walking only two. Hitting well for the Wildcats in the loss, were sophomore Megan O'Leary who went one-for-three with a double and fellow sophomore Mia Brickhouse who went one-for-four with a stolen base. Brickhouse is now 22-for-22 in stolen base attempts this season.

Pitching for Notre Dame (32-18, 13-3), Jennifer Sharon (15-6) got the win pitching five shutout innings, giving up only three hits and two walks while striking out four. Kelly Nichols relieved Sharron in the sixth inning and hurled two scorelss innings for her sixth save of the year. On offense for the Irish, Amy Laboe went two-for-three with a game-high two RBI.

The Wildcats will return home to wrap up the regular season against Lafayette on Tuesday, April 28 at 3 p.m.
