VILLANOVA, Pa. - A late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning could not overcome St. Joseph's as Villanova dropped game two of Tuesday's doubleheader, 4-1.

Sophomore Jess O'Boyle hit a lead-off single up the middle to energize the Wildcats (17-25-1). Senior Lisa Curran reached on a fielder's choice and was moved to second when senior Jessica Curtis knocked an infield single. Freshman Allie Heon came on to pinch hit and launched an RBI double into left center, putting the `Cats on the board, though trailing, 4-1. The seventh would end with two consecutive out and two runners stranded, as the Wildcats fell, 4-1.

The Hawks struck first, scoring a run in the first inning, and then not again until the top of the sixth, connecting on three hits for three runs.

Freshman Christina Botkins hit a lead-off single in the third inning to try and get Villanova on the board, but was caught stealing. Curran notched a double in the fifth and senior Jackie Dempsey singled in the sixth, but neither would score.

Villanova combined for six hits in the game, coming from Dempsey, O'Boyle, Curran, Curtis, Botkins and Heon.

Junior Megan Hord struck out three batters in 3.2 innings of work.

The Wildcats will head to Seton Hall on Saturday, April 26. The BIG EAST doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
