Villanova Softball Sweeps Pennsylvania
Traveling to the University of Pennsylvania for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 16, the Villanova softball team swept the Quakers, winning game one 4-1 and taking game two 5-1. With the day's two victories, the Wildcats improved their record to 28-14 on the season.
On the mound in game one for Villanova, sophomore Carrie Walpole picked up the victory, surrendering only five hits and one unearned run in six innings, while striking out seven batters. Senior Brenda Roach relieved Walpole in the seventh inning and hurled one scoreless inning to pick up her fourth save of the season. Leading the Wildcat offensive attack, sophomore Megan O'Leary went two-for-four with a double and two RBI, while freshman Gina DeFrancesco went one-for-two with a triple and an RBI.
In game two, freshman pitcher Keri Stoller pitched six innings of one-hit ball, striking out seven without allowing a run or walking a batter. Helping the Wildcat cause on offense were sophomore Mia Brickhouse who went two-for-four with a run scored and an RBI, and freshman Jackie Pasquerella who went two-for-four with an RBI. Senior Jessica DeLuca reeked havoc on the basepaths all afternoon, as she combined to steal three bases and score four runs in the day's two games.
Villanova will resume their Big East schedule on Saturday, April 18, when they host the Red Storm of St. John's for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
