Box Score

Newark, Del. - Despite all of the rain in the area the past couple days, the Villanova Wildcats were still able to make the trip to Newark, Delaware to take on the Fightin' Blue Hens on Tuesday. The Blue Hens posted four runs in the bottom of the third inning and that proved to be more than enough offense in game one, as they went on to the 6-1 victory.

The Wildcats (17-19) never seemed to find a rhythm at the plate, collecting five singles in the game to account for all of their hits.

Danielle Maricle was able to make her single to left field count, as it allowed Sheri Donley to score and trimmed the Delaware (14-16-1) lead to 4-1 at the time.

Donley had reached base earlier in the inning on a single of her own and advanced to second base on a groundout by Cassie Koenig. The hit by Donley extended her hit streak to seven games. She is batting .519 (14-27) during the streak with ten runs scored.

On the rubber for the Wildcats, it was Laura Determan getting the start. She was relieved by Megan Hord to start the fourth inning. Determan would return in the bottom of the fifth and finish the game.

Determan (10-9) would take the loss, pitching a total of 4.1 innings and surrendering six runs, five earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts and four walks issued.

Hord's final line was solid, 1.2 innings of scoreless one-hit relief, but she did issue four walks while she was in, which eventually let to the return of Determan.

The big hit for the Blue Hens came in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Michelle Plant drilled a three-run homer to cap the inning. They would add two more runs in the on an RBI triple and a sacrifice that led to a Villanova throwing error.
