VILLANOVA, Pa.--- Hosting LaSalle University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 14, the Villanova softball team swept the Explorers, winning the first game 3-2 and game two 3-0, to increase their winning streak to seven games. With the victories, the Wildcats improved their record to 26-12 on the season.
In game one, senior pitcher Brenda Roach pitched five scoreless innings, before giving way to fellow senior Jen Cornelius in the sixth. After the Explorers scored two quick runs, Roach re-entered the game and pitched the final one and one-third innings to end the LaSalle threat and seal the victory. For the afternoon, Roach hurled six and one-third innings, surrendering three hits and one walk, while striking out three.
On offense for the Wildcats, freshman Jackie Pasquerella had a perfect afternoon batting two-for-two with an RBI. Senior Kelli McCoy also added to the Villanova charge going two-for-three with an RBI, while sophomore Megan O'Leary went one-for-three with an RBI.
Named the Big East Pitcher-of-the-Week earlier in the day, freshman Keri Stoller celebrated by going out and proving to be almost unhittable in game two. Stoller had a perfect game through five innings, before giving up a bloop single and a walk to start off the sixth inning. Sophomore Carrie Walpole relieved her in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings for the save. Stoller picked up her seventh victory of the season in the Cats 3-0 win, hurling five shutout innings and giving up only one hit and one walk, whiling striking out five.
Leading the Villanova offense in game two was sophomore Regina Speicher, who went two-for-three with all three Wildcat RBI. Helping the Villanova cause also, were senior Kelli McCoy and sophomore Mia Brickhouse who both went two-for-three in the win.
Villanova will travel to Long Island University to resume their schedule against the Black Birds on Wednesday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
