VILLANOVA, Pa.-- Opening up their Big East Conference season on Saturday,
March 28, the Villanova softball team proved to be not so gracious hosts as they swept a
doubleheader from the visiting Pirates by the scores of 2-1 and 3-0. With the victories, the Wildcats
record improves to 14-7 on the season and 2-0 in Big East Conference play.
In a game one pitching dual, Villanova sophomore pitcher Carrie
Walpole won the battle pitching seven innings, surrendering only three hits, one walk and one
unearned run, while striking out four. It was the sixth victory of the season for Walpole, whose
record stands at 6-1. Supplying the offensive fire-power for the Wildcats was senior Kelly Sparks who went
two-for-three, with a double and an RBI, and sophomore Mia Brickhouse who went one-for-two and
had the game-winning RBI.
In game two, freshman pitcher Keri Stoller took a no-hitter into the
sixth inning before finally giving up a hit. Stoller finished the game pitching six innings and
giving up just one hit and two walks. On offense for the Cats, Megan O'Leary had a game-high two hits
and one of the teams three RBI, with the other two coming from Stacey Stack and Regina Speicher.
Villanova will resume their schedule on Sunday, March 29 looking to
