VILLANOVA, Pa. - Coming into the game having won three out of their last four, the Villanova softball team kept up their hot streak sweeping a doubleheader from the Princeton Tigers on Thursday, March 26 at the Villanova softball field by the scores of 1-0 and 6-2. With the two victories, the Wildcatsimproved their record to 14-7 on the season.
In game one, sophomore pitcher Carrie Walpole shut down the Tigers, hurling a complete game shutout for her fifth victory of the season. Walpole pitched seven innings, surrendering only two hits and two walks, while striking out five. On offense for Villanova, freshman Jackie Pasquerella went two-for-three and had the game's lone RBI in the 1-0 vicory.
After Princeton scored two quick second inning runs off freshman starter Kerri Stoller in game two, senior Brenda Roach came on to shut down Princeton pitching three and one-third scoreless innings, giving up only one hit. While Roach was doing her thing on the mound, a host of Wildcat hitters were contributing at the plate. Senior Kelly Sparks finished the game two-for-two with an RBI and two runs scored, while fellow senior Kelli McCoy also had two hits and an RBI.
Beginning the season 1-4, the Villanova softball team has turned their season around winning 13 of their last 16 games.
The Wildcats will look to continue their hot streak as they begin their Big East schedule this weekend. Villanova will host the Pirates of Seton Hall for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28, with the first game beginning at noon, and on Sunday, March 29 for one game at 12 p.m.
