CLEARWATER, Fla. - Up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, a Villanova (5-9) error, wild pitch and passed ball allowed Boston College (10-7) to score three runs to come from behind and knock off the Wildcats 3-2 in extra innings.

Knotted at zero heading into the eighth, Villanova plated the first two runs of the game to take a 2-0 lead into BC's final at-bats. Due to extra innings rules, Aleshia Ayers was placed on second base and advanced to third on an Ali Lowe fly out to right field. Shea Palmer would single up the middle to bring in Ayers before stealing second base and advancing to third on a groundout. Sierra McConnell singled down the left field line to drive in Palmer for the second run of the morning.

Ace Kate Poppe dominated the Eagles hitters all morning and took a no-hitter into extras before Nicole D'Argento would help her own cause and ripped a double with two runners on base in the eighth to tie the game at 2-2. The next BC batter Tory Speer reached on an error by the right fielder which moved runners to second and third base. The Eagles would score the game winning run on a passed ball by Natalia Segovia.

Poppe struck out 10 batters, allowed one hit and three runs, one earned in 7.1 innings of work. The sophomore falls to 4-5 on the year in the circle.

BC's D'Argento finished with eight strikeouts and allowed two runs, one earned en route to her sixth win as the Eagles improve to 10-7 overall.

Villanova has dropped seven games in a row as its record falls to 5-9 on the season and 0-3 at the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.

The Wildcats added seven hits against D'Argento but left eight runners on base. Lowe, McConnell and Segovia each notched a hit, while freshman Jessica Angersbach registered a pinch-hit single in her two plate appearances. Palmer went 2-4 with an RBI, stolen base and a run scored.

The team will wrap its doubleheader against Boston University (5-6) following the conclusion of the first game.
