NORFOLK, Va.-- Sarah Wall had five RBI's, including three in the Wildcats' 8-2 win over Delaware, as Villanova (6-4) breezed to victory over the Blue Hens and added a 10-0, five-inning win over Norfolk State, Saturday, Feb. 26, during the second day of the MASCUA Tournament at Norfolk State.
Kristen Haynes pitched the first victory for `Nova, striking out 10 batters and improving to 3-2 for the season.
The `Cats scored four runs in the first inning, with Sheri Donley reaching home first off an RBI-double from Wall. Allie Wisniewski slapped a single through the right side to score Wall and advance Kari Koller, who had drawn a walk. Krissy Yauch would provide the single Koller needed to advance home. Wisniewski would score the final run of the inning off a throwing error by the center fielder.
Delaware managed one run in the second inning, capitalizing off two doubles, one of which provided the run.
Villanova scored its next four runs in the fourth inning, when Wall's single to left field would score both Carolyn Brown and Lindsey Martin. Lisa Curran also provided a two RBI-single that inning, bringing in Wall and Jackie Dempsey.
Delaware scored its second run in the fifth inning. The Wildcats out-hit the Blue Hens 12-5 and three Delaware errors proved very costly as Villanova scored off all of them.
The Wildcats followed up their win with another, beating Norfolk State 10-0 in five innings. Donley was 1-for-3, Wall provided another two RBI and Kari Koller belted out her first home run of the season.
Shannon Williams, who also improved to a 3-2 pitching record, threw three innings for the win and gave up just one hit. Kat Walsh threw the other two innings in relief, also giving up just one hit.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, facing George Mason at 9 a.m. Championship games and brackets will be announced following the morning games on Sunday.
