Feb. 14, 2009
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Villanova softball team fell to the University of North Florida, 4-3, in eight innings in its second of two games on Saturday. The Wildcats (3-1) got on the board quick as junior Danielle Maricle singled to right center in the first at-bat. Junior Jess O'Boyle singled to left field, which moved Maricle to third base. As senior Meghan Morese singled to the right side, Maricle came home to put Villanova up, 1-0. The `Cats' 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the sixth inning as North Florida tied the game on an RBI single. In the top of the seventh, senior Natalie Hord tripled with two outs. She came home as freshman Kristi Burlin connected on a single to the left side. The Ospreys were quick to tie the game again with a solo home run in the first at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With freshman Jamie O'Hara pinch running on second base, freshman Shannon O'Brien moved her to third with a single up the middle in the eighth inning. O'Hara scored on an error from North Florida as the Wildcats reclaimed the lead, 3-2. North Florida had a runner on second, due to the extra innings rule and had another runner reach base on an error. With two on, and two out, the Ospreys launched a two RBI double and sealed their 4-3 victory in eight innings. Hord was 2-for-2 with one run scored, while Maricle, O'Boyle, senior Meghan Morese, Burlin and O'Brien each posted one hit. At the mound, freshman Caitlyn Delahaba threw 7.2 innings, gave up four hits and struck out six batters.
