Wildcats Falter in Late Innings to Rutgers
The Wildcats accumulated ten hits and four runs in game two of the Rutgers doubleheader but were unable to come away with the victory losing 10-4. The Wildcats record falls to 19-21, 6-6 BIG EAST while the Scarlet Knights improve to 23-12 (7-5 Big 10).
Wildcats Can't Overcome Rutgers in Game One
In game one of a mid-week doubleheader at Rutgers there were four solo home runs hit, one by the Wildcats and three by the Scarlet Knights. The Villanova Wildcats (19-20, 6-6 BIG EAST) were seeking their second straight victory in as many days over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (22-12, 7-5 Big 10). The final score of game one was 3-1 Scarlet Knights.
Wildcats Win Extra Innings Battle With La Salle
The Villanova Wildcats (19-19, 6-6 BIG EAST) and the La Salle Explorers (9-9, 7-2 A-10) battled it out in a zero to zero tie for 10 and a half innings before the game was decided in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Villanova to Face La Salle & Rutgers in Mid-Week Matchups
Coming off a weekend conference series at Butler, that saw the Wildcats take two of three from the Bulldogs, Villanova will play a Big 5 matchup against La Salle on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The Explorers come to Villanova with a record of (9-8, 7-2 A-10) and the Wildcats' record stands at (18-19, 6-6 BIG EAST).
Lawrence and Herschberg earn BIG EAST Honors
Brette Lawrence and Lauren Herschberg have both been honored by the BIG EAST conference for their performances this past week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second time both Lawrence and Herschberg have been honored by the BIG EAST this season. The Wildcats had a 6-2 record over the past week and these two players were an integral part of it.
Wildcats Comeback Attempt Falls Short at Butler
In the third game of their BIG EAST conference series against the Butler Bulldogs (16-22, 4-8 BIG EAST), the Vilanova Wildcats (18-19, 6-6 BIG EAST) were victim of a 5-4 Butler win. With the loss the Wildcats season-long winning streak of six came to an end, but the Wildcats still come away from Butler with a 2-1 series victory as they defeated them twice yesterday in a doubleheader.
Wildcats Win Sixth Straight in Victory Over Butler
The Wildcats grabbed their sixth straight victory and ninth win in their last ten games in the second game of their doubleheader versus Butler today. The score was 9-2 as the Wildcats offense continued to score runs at a brisk pace. The pitching from Brette Lawrence was also excellent. The Wildcats have now pulled to an even 18-18 record on the season with a BIG EAST conference record of 6-5. Butler stands at 15-22, 3-8 BIG EAST.
Villanova's Late-Inning Hits Put Them Past Butler
In the series opener against the Butler Bulldogs, the Villanova Wildcats defeated Butler by a score of 2-0 in the first game of today's doubleheader. The win extends Villanova's winning streak to five and they have now won eight of their last nine games. The Wildcats season record is now up to 17-18, 5-5 BIG EAST and Butler's falls to 15-21, 3-7 BIG EAST.
