Softball to Play in 2015 BIG EAST Tournament
With their 3-0 victory over the St. John's Red Storm earlier today, the Villanova Wildcats have clinched a spot in the 2015 BIG EAST Tournament. It's the team's first appearance in the tournament since 2010 and the will be represent the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
Wildcats Clinch a Spot in the BIG EAST Tournament With 3-0 Victory Over St. John's
In their final regular season game of the season, the Villanova Wildcats faced the St. John's Red Strom in a game that would be detrimental in deciding the fourth seed in the 2015 BIG EAST Softball Tournament. With the victory over St. John's the Wildcats clinched the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning and kept that lead for the remainder of the day. The Wildcats season record improves to 24-29, 9-12 BIG EAST while St. John's drops to 26-17, 16-2 BIG EAST.
Wildcats Play Nail-Biter with St. John's in Game Two
In the second game of the Saturday doubleheader against the St. John's Red Storm the Villanova Wildcats were defeated by a score of 5-4. Dana Morris hit a clutch homer in the top of the sixth inning to give Villanova a 4-3 lead, but the team was unable to hold the Red Storm in the bottom of the inning as they put up two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. The Wildcats record drops to 23-29, 8-12 BIG EAST while the Red Storm improves to 26-16, 16-1 BIG EAST.
Wildcats Take on Red Storm in Game One
In the first game of a doubleheader in their weekend conference series against the St. John's Red Storm, the Villanova Wildcats were defeated by a score of 6-1. Sierra McConnell drove in the only Wildcat run of the day. The Wildcats record drops to 23-28, 8-11 BIG EAST while the Red Storm improve to 25-16, 15-1 BIG EAST.
Wildcats Will Face St. John's in Final Regular Season Series
In their final weekend conference series of the regular season, the Villanova Wildcats (23-27, 8-10 BIG EAST) will travel to Queens, N.Y. to face the St. John's Red Storm (24-16, 14-1 BIG EAST). It will be a three-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday and the final game will begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Poppe Shines as Villanova Takes Down Monmouth, 4-1
In their final mid-week game against a non-conference opponent the Wildcats took on the Monmouth Hawks on Wednesday afternoon. An outstanding pitching performance by Kate Poppe combined with a huge four-run top of the seventh inning contributed to the victory. The Wildcats improve to 23-27, 8-10 BIG EAST while the Hawks drop to 12-23, 8-8 MAAC.
Softball to Play Monmouth on Wednesday Afternoon
In their final mid-week non-conference matchup of the 2015 season, the Villanova Wildcats (22-27, 8-10 BIG EAST) softball team is set to take on the Monmouth Hawks (12-22, 8-8 MAAC) on Wednesday afternoon in West Long Branch, N.J. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. The home doubleheader against Drexel, originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon has been canceled.
Wildcats Softball Celebrates Senior Day
On Sunday morning the Villanova Wildcats faced off against DePaul. Ali Angelbello was honored as the team's lone senior on senior day at the Villanova Softball Complex. She was accompanied by her parents¬ Ed and Patty Angelbello for the ceremony. DePaul grabbed the victory 14-1 in six inning as they improve to 20-21, 11-3 BIG EAST and the Wildcats drop to 22-27, 8-10 BIG EAST.
