VILLANOVA, Pa.--Senior midfielder Katy Nagy (Bellmore, N.Y.) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 squad, as announced by College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) late last week. Nagy is a first team all-district selection and is now eligible to move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
This is the second consecutive year that Nagy has earned academic all-district mention and she follow up on receiving second team honors last season. Nagy is enrolled in the Villanova School of Business and currently has a 3.92 grade-point average as a Marketing major. Her additional academic awards include being a two-time Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area pick and a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Nagy started all 18 games she played for the Wildcats this season and finished the year with one goal, three assists and five points. Throughout her collegiate career, and at various times this season, Nagy has played every position on the field and has seen significant time on defense despite being a midfielder by trade.
During the season Nagy scored her first goal on a penalty kick against Saint Joseph's and had an assist on the game-winning goal in a road win at DePaul, while also dishing out assists in wins over Georgia State and Pittsburgh.
A three-year starter in the Villanova midfield, Nagy finished her collegiate career this season with 72 games played and 56 starts. She scored two goals and four assists for eight points while serving as one of the team's key players for her ability to hold possessions and link the Wildcats back line to the offense.
To be eligible for academic all-district honors a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.3 GPA while being either a starter or top reserve on their team. This is the sixth straight year that at least one player from Villanova has been named an all-district selection.
Capital One Academic All-America teams for women's soccer will be announced on Thursday, December 1.
