VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's soccer team has clinched the No. 6 seed for the BIG EAST Championship and will face third-seeded DePaul in Chicago, Ill. in the first round of the tournament, slated to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 5th at campus sites. Game time versus the Blue Demons is set for 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT at Wish Field on the DePaul University campus. The Wildcats claim the sixth seed by virtue of their 1-0 loss to Providence on Saturday afternoon and finish the BIG EAST regular season with 10 points.
Conference regular season play concludes tonight with the Blue Demons taking on St. John's in Jamaica, N.Y. at 8:30pm. Marquette has claimed the regular season title by going undefeated in BIG EAST action for the season while Georgetown has solidified the No. 2 seed with a 7-1-1 mark in conference play. Both schools have earned the bye into the semifinals which are set to take place in Milwaukee, Wis. at Marquette on Friday, Nov. 8th.
The fourth and fifth place seeds are still up for grabs, with Butler currently in 4th with 12 points and St. John's with 11 points, respectively. The Johnnies are looking for a win to receive a home game while a draw or loss will put them on the road at Butler for a Tuesday matchup.
Villanova makes its 16th appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament and is 4-13-4 all-time in the conference postseason, winning the championship in 2003. The Wildcats also met the Blue Demons in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship just a year ago and fell to the visitors 3-0 at West Campus Soccer Complex which ended the Wildcats postseason hopes. In the previous meeting this year, Villanova fell to DePaul by a 2-0 martin in Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 6th. Tuesday's matchup will mark the 11th overall meeting between the two schools with Villanova claiming the 8-2-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The 2013 BIG EAST women's soccer championship will culminate in Milwaukee, Wis., as host Marqutte will serve as the site for the semifinals and title game of the tournament. The semifinals are set for Nov.8 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CT. The title game is set for Nov. 10th at 1 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
