VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's soccer team (5-6-2, 2-2-0) travels to St. John's (7-3-2, 1-2-1) this Saturday for the continuation of their BIG EAST schedule. Game time versus the Red Storm is slated for 7 p.m. at Belson Stadium in Jamaica, N.Y. and the contest will be broadcast live via video and GameTracker on the St. John's website.
Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 2-2 BIG EAST record after posting a 2-1 victory over Xavier and a 2-0 loss at DePaul last week. Freshman Katie Martin (Dallas, Texas) led the team with a goal and an assist in the triumph over the Musketeers and was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for her performances. It marked the third time this season that Martin has nabbed Rookie of the Week laurels from the conference as the Texas native continues to make a strong case for BIG EAST Rookie of the Year.
Martin leads the team with 19 points via five goals and nine assists off of 23 shots. Sophomore Reanna Marino (Massapequa, N.Y.) follows closely behind with nine points off of four goals and one assist while freshman Caroline Brown (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Caitlin Forte (Selbyville, Del.) have posted seven points each. 10 Wildcats have record points this season through 13 games.
Senior goalkeeper Jami Kranich (Hamden, Conn.)has been the mainstay in net for Villanova this season playing al 1,210 minutes between the posts and boasts a 1.26 goals against average and a .761 save percentage.
`Nova vs. St. John's: Saturday marks the 20th meeting between the Red Storm and Wildcats with Villanova holding the advantage in the all-time series at 13-4-2. The Wildcats last met St. John's on September 23rd, 2011 and fell 2-0.
A Look at St. John's: The Red Storm brings a 7-3-2 overall record into Saturday's matchup and a 1-2-1 mark in BIG EAST play. St. John's began the season with a six-game win streak and has captured victories over Delaware (W, 2-1), Fordham (W, 5-0), UMass (W, 1-0), North Dakota State (W, 5-0), CCSU (W, 4-0), Brown (W, 4-0) and Xavier (W, 2-0). Losses on the year have come via Ohio State (L, 1-), Marquette (L, 3-1) and Butler (L, 2-1 OT) while the Red Storm has posted draws with Dartmouth (T, 0-0) and Creighton (T, 0-0).
Rachel Daly leads the team with 30 points via 14 goals and two assists while Amy Marron has tallied four goals and seven assists for 15 points. Diana Poulin has been the mainstay in goal for the Red Storm this season playing 971 minutes and making 46 saves for a .868 save percentage.
