Martin Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for Third Time

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Villanova freshman Katie Martin (Dallas, Texas) has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the third time this season following her performances versus Xavier and DePaul. Martin posted a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Xavier in a 1-1 week for the Wildcats.

Martin is making a strong case for the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and leads the Wildcats with 19 points via five goals and nine assists off of 23 shots. Villanova is currently 5-6-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference following the weekend where they tallied a win over Xavier and a 2-0 loss at DePaul in Chicago, Ill.

Villanova will be back in action on Saturday, October 13th when they take on St. John's in Jamaica, N.Y. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.


BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Kirstyn Corder, Creighton, MF, So.
- Corder scored a goal in each of two road victories for the Bluejays. The sophomore midfielder picked up a goal in a 3-2 triumph at Providence. She scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory at Seton Hall. Corder leads the Bluejays with seven goals this season.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Pitman, DePaul, D Jr.
- In a 2-0-0 week, Pitman anchored a backline that did not allow a goal. She also scored the golden goal in a 1-0 overtime victory over Seton Hall. Pitman scored the insurance goal in a 2-0 win against Villanova.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Amanda Engel, Marquette, GK, So.
- Engel helped Marquette to a 2-0 week when she only allowed one goal in the pair of victories. She made two saves in a 3-0 victory against Xavier. Engel also led the defense in a 3-1 win against St. John's. She wins Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second week in a row.

BIG EAST Rookie of the Week
Katie Martin, Villanova , F, Fr.
- Martin posted a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win against Xavier in a 1-1 week. She leads the Wildcats with five goals and nine assists for 19 points, 10 more points than the team's next leading point scorer.



BIG EAST Honor Roll

Elise Kotsakis, Butler, F, Jr.
Scored the game-winning overtime goal in a 2-1 victory against St. John's to cap off a 1-1 week. Four of her five goals this season have been game-winners.

Danielle Rice, Creighton, GK, Fr.
Made a total of eight saves in a 2-0-0 week. She had three stops in a 3-2 win at Providence and five saves in a 1-0 shutout at Seton Hall.

Sara Adams, Georgetown, D, So.
Anchored the Hoya backline and scored a goal in a 3-0 win at Butler. Added an assist in a 2-1 win at Providence.

Katie Hishmeh, Marquette, D, Sr.
Helped the Golden Eagle defense limit their opponents to only one goal in a 2-0-0 week and scored the winning tally in a 3-0 win against Xavier.

Catherine Zimmerman, Providence, F, So.
Scored the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Georgetown and added an assist in a 3-2 loss to Creighton.
