The Villanova women's soccer team will continue BIG EAST play this weekend.  First the Wildcats will travel to Marquette for a Thursday night game before returning home to host Xavier Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats are 4-6 overall and 0-1 in early conference play.  Last weekend Villanova fell to Providence in the BIG EAST opener by a final of 1-0.  Marquette is 7-3-1 and 0-1 in BIG EAST play entering Thursday's game.  Butler handed the Golden Eagles an opening conference game loss by a final of 3-0.

Sunday the Xavier Musketeers will travel to the Main Line after hosting Providence for a midweek matchup.  Currently Xavier sits at 5-4-2 and 1-0 in BIG EAST play defeating Creighton on a last second goal in the conference opener.

Leading Villanova this season has been graduate student transfer, Emma Firenze.  Early in the season head coach Chris McLain named Firenze a team captain, a role she is honored to have.

"Being a leader is something that I think is very honorable and a big role.  This team is all on board which has been great.  Overall it was very humbling to be named a captain in a great conference, a great team and for coaches that I love playing for."

Prior to coming to Villanova this fall Firenze spent three season at Syracuse before transferring to Ohio State for her senior year.

"This transition was really easy for me and I was able to adapt to the system that the coaching staff is implementing.  The team also has been very welcoming.  Overall we are still trying to work out the kinks, to find what will work for us, and we are almost there.  I think over these last few games it has really started to show."

Firenze shared, "this week in practice we are focusing on a lot of high energy and fast pace as well as to fix those mistakes that we made in previous games and capitalize on our chances that we have.  Moving forward we are looking to go into other team's fields and show that we are able to compete and to get results on the road since the conference is still wide open and we need to prove ourselves."

Thursday night's game at Marquette can be seen on BEDN and is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m. ET.  Sunday's game will be the team's "Kick It To Cancer" game, set to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET.  Donations can be made here, and the game can be seen on Nova Nation All Access.
