Wildcats Kick Off BIG EAST Action Hosting Butler, Marquette

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's soccer team (3-4-2) kicks off BIG EAST Conference action this week when they host No. 25 Butler (7-1-2) and Marquette (7-3-0) this Thursday and Sunday at West Campus Soccer Complex. Game time versus the Bulldogs is slated for 4 p.m. while the Wildcats will meet the Golden Eagles at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Both contests will be broadcast on Nova Nation All-Access with GameTracker providing live stats for the contest.
Freshman Katie Martin leads the team with 15 points via four goals and seven assists off of 19 shots while sophomore Reanna Marino follows closely behind with three goals and one assist for seven points. Senior goalkeeper Jami Kranich has been the mainstay in net and has played every minute between the pipes this season. She currently posts a 1.38 goals against average and a .729 save percentage.
`Nova vs. Butler: Thursday marks just the third meeting between the Bulldogs and Wildcats with Villanova holding the advantage in the all-time series at 2-0-0. The Wildcats last met Butler on September 8th, 2006 and powered to a 3-0 victory.
A Look at Butler: Butler brings a 7-1-2 record into Thursday's matchup and is ranked No. 25 in the latest Soccer America poll. The Bulldogs have claimed wins over Indiana St., Northern Kentucky, Bowling Green, IPFW, Michigan, Wright State and IUPUI. Their lone loss of the year comes from Louisville and draws have been against Seattle and Eastern Michigan.
Sophia Maccagnone leads the team with 18 points via six goals and six assists while Elise Kotsakis has provided three goals and two assists on the year. Julie Burton has been the only goaltender to see time this season and posts a .760 goals against average and a .800 save percentage.
`Nova vs. Marquette: Sunday marks just the fifth overall meeting between Villanova and Marquette with the Golden Eagles posting all four wins in history to date. The two squads last met on October 1st, 2010 when MU posted a 3-0 victory over Villanova.
A Look at Marquette: Marquette owns a 7-3-0 overall record and has posted wins over Portland State, Oakland, Saint Mary's, Colorado College, Colgate, Louisville and Milwaukee on the year. Losses have come by the hands of Illinois State, UCLA and Portland.
Maegan Kelly leads the team with 13 points via four goals and five assists while Taylor Madigan follows closely behind with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Amanda Engel has been the primary starter in goal and owns a 1.31 goals against average and a .657 save percentage.
