Villanova Heads to Rutgers for Friday Night Contest

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's soccer team (3-3-2) makes the short trek to Piscataway, N.J. this Friday to take on their former conference foes the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-6-1). Game time is slated for 5:30pm at Yurcak Field and the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers platform.
Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter the weekend with a .500 win percentage after posting a 2-1 victory over St. Francis at home last Sunday. Junior Victoria Gersh and sophomore Christina Camassa both contributed a goal and an assist in the triumph as freshman Katie Martin provided an additional two assists on the afternoon to help propel the Wildcats to the victory.
On the year, the Wildcats have captured wins over Lehigh (W, 2-0), Richmond (W, 3-0) and St. Francis while losses have come from Maryland (L, 4-2), JMU (L, 3-2) and La Salle (L, 1-0). Villanova has posted draws against Drexel (T, 1-1) and Radford (T, 1-1).
Katie Martin leads the team with 14 points via four goals and six assists while Reanna Marino follows closely behind with seven points via three goals and one assist. 10 Wildcats have contributed points thus far in the season as the team looks forward to their final non-conference game of the year before the start of BIG EAST action.
`Nova vs. Rutgers: Friday marks the 30th overall meeting between the Scarlet Knights and Wildcats with Rutgers holding the advantage in the all-time series at 13-8-8. The Wildcats last met Rutgers on September 14th, 2012 and posted a 2-1 victory over the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J.
A Look at Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights bring a 6-1-1 overall record into Friday's matchup and have captured wins over Drexel (W, 1-0), Army (W, 3-2), Delaware (W, 1-0), Fordham (W, 3-0), Bryant (W, 4-0) and Princeton (W, 5-1). Their lone loss on the season comes from Virginia (L, 6-0) and the Scarlet Knights posted a draw against William and Mary (T, 1-1).
Jonelle Filigno leads the team with 11 points via four goals and three assists while Stefanie Scholz and Madison Tiernan each have 10 points on the year. Jessica Janosz has been the mainstay in goal for the Scarlet Knights this season playing 682 minutes through eight games. She has collected 20 saves for a .714 save percentage and posts a 1.06 goals against average on the season.
