VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's soccer team (1-1-2) will make the trek to Harrisonburg, Va. and return home to Villanova, Pa. this weekend as they take on a pair of southern foes in James Madison (2-2-0) and Richmond (1-2-1) this Friday and Sunday. Game time versus the Dukes in slated for 7 p.m. on Sept. 6th while the Wildcats will meet the Spiders at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8th at West Campus Soccer Complex.
Sunday's game will be broadcast on Nova Nation All-Access with GameTracker providing live stats for the contest.
Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter this weekend with a 1-1-2 record after posting a 2-0 victory over Lehigh last Sunday. Freshmen Caroline Brown and Katie Martin provided scores to propel the Wildcats to their first win of the season as Martin earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week accolades for her performances. On the year, the Wildcats have tied with Radford (T, 1-1, 2OT) and Drexel (T, 1-1, 2OT) and fell at then-No. 17 Maryland (L, 4-2).
Martin leads the team with seven points via three goals and one assist and provided points in all of Villanova's three games last week. Sophomore Reanna Marino follows closely behind in the point race with one goal and one assist for three points. Senior goalkeeper Jami Kranich has been the mainstay in net and has played every minute between the pipes this season. She currently posts a 1.35 goals against average and a .700 save percentage.
`Nova vs. James Madison: Friday will mark the 8th meeting between the Dukes and Wildcats with JMU holding the advantage in the all-time series at 6-0-1. The Wildcats last met JMU on August 19th, 2011 and powered to a 1-1 draw.
A Look at James Madison: The Dukes bring a 2-2 overall record into Friday's matchup and JMU has captured wins over Richmond (W, 4-1) and Marshall (W, 2-1). Losses have come from the hands of La Salle (L, 2-1) and Tennessee (L, 2-0).
Meghan Cox leads the team with four points via two goals and is followed closely behind by Ashley Herndon and Hayley Miller, both with one goal each. Ellen Forrest has been the primary starter in goal and owns a 2-2 record on the season with a .769 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average.
`Nova vs. Richmond: Sunday will mark just the 3rd overall meeting between Villanova and Richmond with the Spiders taking the upper hand in the all-time series at 2-0. The opponents last met just a year ago on August 31st, 2012 when the Wildcats fell 3-1 to the Spiders in Richmond, Va.
A Look at Richmond: The Spiders own a 1-2-1 overall record early on the season. Richmond posted their lone win over Old Dominion (W, 3-1). They've fallen to James Madison (L, 4-1), Virginia (L, 3-0) and tied with Longwood (T, 0-0 2OT).
Becca Wann, who is now out for the year with a concussion, led the team with two goals for four points. She is followed closely behind by Kristen Lybert, Erin Layne and Ashley Reifner who have combined for two goals and three assists. Devin O'Brien has been the primary starter in goal and owns a 1.85 goals against average and a .771 save percentage.
