Katie Ryan Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Sept. 2, 2009
PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Sophomore forward Katie Ryan (Wayne, N.J.) has been named to this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference on Monday. Ryan was the Offensive MVP of the Villanova Classic this past weekend, when she scored a goal in both games the Wildcats played, against Virginia Tech and Nebraska.
Ryan, who last year was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on three different occasions, has netted a goal in each of Villanova's first three games this season. She has now tallied 11 career scores in just 21 games and is tied for the most career goals out of the current players on the roster.
In a 2-1, double-overtime win over Virginia Tech on Friday, Ryan scored the game's first goal in the 35th minute and matched a game-high with four shots. She then provided late-game heroics in an eventual 2-2 tie against Nebraska on Sunday, scoring the game-tying goal with just nine seconds left in regulation. Ryan took eight shots in the game, including registering five shots on goal.
Through this weekend's games, Ryan was second in the BIG EAST in points (7) and tied for second in goals scored with three. As a freshman last season, she tied for the team lead in goals with eight.
Villanova is unbeaten (2-0-1) through the first three games of the season and will go on the road this weekend for the first time when the visit Davidson (Friday/7 p.m.) and Charlotte (Sunday/1 p.m.).
