Barghash Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Sophomore Rhea Barghash (Bridgewater, N.J.) has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her performance against Radford last Friday, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Barghash scored the game-tying Villanova goal against the Highlanders in a 1-1 double-overtime draw for the 2013 season opener. The laurels mark the first of Barghash's career from the conference office as she helped the Wildcat defense allow only two shots on goal for the contest.

With the draw, Villanova is now 16-11-4 (.581) all-time in season openers and is unbeaten in the first game of the season in the last 13 years and is now 23-7-5 (.729) all-time in the month of August.

Villanova will be back in action this evening when they take on No. 17 Maryland at 7 p.m. in College Park.

Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Daly, St. John's -
Daly scored three goals and had two assists in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm. The sophomore notched a hat trick in the first 21 minutes of play in a 5-0 win Sunday against Fordham. She assisted in both goals in a 2-1 win against Delaware in the season opener. It was the first hat trick by a St. John's player since 2002.

Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Menges, Georgetown -
Menges led a Hoya defense that allowed only four shots in a 2-0 week. Georgetown defeated William & Mary 2-1 in overtime in its season opener and followed that with a 5-0 blanking of Quinnipiac.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Diana Poulin, St. John's -
The freshman helped the Red Storm to a 2-0 start by only allowing one goal in the two contests, a 2-1 victory against Delaware and a 5-0 win against Fordham. She made three saves in the Fordham match.

Rookie of the Week
Tori Doss, Xavier -
Doss got her collegiate career started by being named Offensive MVP of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Xavier defeated North Dakota 3-0 and host Purdue 4-3. Doss tallied two goals and added an assist in the victory against the Boilermakers. Her total of three goals already matches XU's season leader's total from last season.



BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Julie Burton, GK, Sr., Butler - Posted 11 saves in a 1-1 week, which included a 3-0 shutout against Indiana State.

Elise Wyatt, F, So., DePaul - Scored a pair of goals in a 4-0 win at Saint Louis.

Kaitlin Brenn, F, Sr., Georgetown - Scored both goals in a 2-1 OT win against William & Mary and had an assist in a 5-0 triumph over Quinnipiac.

Rhea Barghash, D, So., Villanova - Scored the Wildcats' only goal in a 1-1 tie against Radford and helped the defense allow only two shots on goal.

Courtney Kobashigawa, D/M, Xavier - Named Defensive MVP of the Boilermaker Challenge. Helped XU shut out North Dakota 3-0 and beat host Purdue 4-3.
