VILLANOVA, Pa. - Although the reporting date to campus for the Villanova women's soccer team is now just a few weeks away, several team members are in the midst of competing in national championships with their club teams during the summer months. The Wildcats feature a roster that is filled with players from some of the top club programs in the nation, as evidenced by their respective successful summer seasons.

Defender Erin Ryan (Doylestown, Pa.) and forward Megan Verdeur (Levittown, Pa.) were part of a talented Villanova freshman class in 2008. Both are members of the FC Delco U-19 team that recently won a USYSA Region 1 championship. FC Delco will now head for the national championships in Lancaster, Massachusetts later this month.

Representing Eastern Pennsylvania, the FC Delco Fury went to overtime in a 1-0 over the Freestate Shooters (Maryland) in the championship game last Tuesday morning. The team had previously defeated South Shore Select (Massachusetts), 1-0, in a semifinal on Monday morning.

A trio of incoming freshmen all play for the FC Bucks Vipers U-18 team that also just won a Region 1 title. Defender Alexa Carugati (Newtown, Pa.), midfielder/defender Carly Edgcomb (Princeton, N.J.) and forward Heidi Sabatura (Lawrenceville, N.J.) advanced to the national championship with a 1-0 victory in the regional finals. The Vipers defeated a Montclair Aristocats (New Jersey) squad that features another newcomer to the Wildcats this season, defender Jaclyn Wood (Park Ridge, N.J.). FC Bucks outscored its opposition 9-3 in winning three games in pool play and then defeated Surge SC (New York West), 5-1, in the semifinals.
