2011 NCAA Women's Division I All-Northeast Team

VILLANOVA, Pa.--Senior forward Katie Ryan (Wayne, N.J.) had her best collegiate season in 2011 and was rewarded last month with NSCAA All-Northeast Region honors. Ryan was a member of the all-region third team after her fourth straight season of leading the potent Villanova offense.

Ryan is one of the top offensive performers in the history of the Wildcats program and following the season became just the third forward in school history to be a first team All-BIG EAST selection multiple times. She ended her illustrious collegiate career ranked among the all-time Villanova leaders in every offensive category.

During the 2011 campaign Ryan scored 12 goals and dished out five assists to finish the year with 29 points, while counting four game-winning goals among her 12 tallies. She scored two goals in a game on two different occasions and her dozen goals tallied on the year represent a single-season career high.

Ryan also saved her best efforts for conference play and registered six goals, three assists and 15 points versus BIG EAST opponents. That production includes a six-point game (two goals, two assists) in a 4-1 win over nationally-ranked West Virginia as well as a two-goal effort in a win at DePaul.

Also among the highlights of Ryan's six-point performance against the Mountaineers is that she also established a new school record for career game-winning goals in that contest. Ryan finished her Wildcats career with 15 game-winning tallies, breaking the previous mark of 14 held by two former players that were each a part of the inaugural Villanova varsity team more than 25 years ago.

Ryan also ranks second in school history in shots, third in goals and points (102) and is tied for seventh in assists. Her career totals in 77 games for the Wildcats are 40 goals, 22 assists and 102 points, while she attempted 206 shots.

This season Ryan ranked in the top five in both points and goals in the highly competitive BIG EAST Conference. The league accounted for nearly half (15 of 33) of the selections to the first, second and third team All-Northeast Region lists.

Since all-region awards have been handed out - beginning in 1986 - Ryan is only the 14th player from Villanova to earn all-region acclaim. Those 14 players have combined for 30 all-region honors, including 10 first team selections, 13 second team picks and seven third team selections. Prior to Ryan, the last Wildcat to earn All-Northeast Region honors was defender Kelly Eagan, a second team selection in 2009.
