Villanova Shutout by Seton Hall
Villanova, Pa.--- The Villanova women's soccer team (2-4-0) was defeated, 3-0, by the Seton Hall Pirates (5-1-0) on Wednesday, September Sept. 17. The game was played at the Villanova Soccer Field on the campus of Villanova University.
The Wildcats gained early control of the first half due to a strong offensive effort. Senior Maura McGhee orchestrated several offensive rushes for the Villanova offense but was unable to capitalize. The first have concluded in a 0-0 tie.
The second half started as a mirror image of the first. It was a defensive battle for a greater part of the half with both teams struggling to gain any type of advantage. With just over twenty minutes remaining, Kelly Smith of Seton Hall broke the stalemate with a goal on a penalty shot. The Pirates tallied two more goals by Corrie Lynn and Smith to defeat the Wildcats 3-0.
The loss was Villanova's first in Big East Conference competition.
Wildcat goalie Jeanne Hennessy tallied eight saves in the losing effort.
Villanova returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Georgetown for a 2 p.m. start.
