Trying to extend their Big East winning streak to three games, Villanova went into West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 18, and played the Mountaineers to a scoreless tie, picking up one point in the conference standings. Villanova's record is now 6-6-2 overall on the season and 4-3-1 in the Big East Conference.
In the first half, the defenses and goalies ruled right from the start. Villanova goalie Jeanne Hennessy saved two shots in the half, with West Virginia goalie Stacey Adams saving six shots.
Senior Wildcat defenders Stephanie Shields, Nikki Posillico and Jessica Baratta led the Wildcat defense holding the Mountaineers to only two shots in the half.
The second half looked much like the first, with the defenses overpowering the offensive units. The Villanova defense once again held the Mountaineer offense to two shots and Hennessy had two saves, as the game went into overtime tied 0-0.
In the two overtime periods, the Villanova defense held the Mountaineers without a shot on goal. Despite two shots by the Wildcat offense, they were unable to score and the game ended in a 0-0 scoreless tie.
