Johnson Scores Both Villanova Goals to Help Wildcats Advance

Senior Forward Laura Johnson scored two goal to propel the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over Yale.

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Senior forward Laura Johnson scored a goal 39 seconds into the game and added the unassisted game-winner to lift the Villanova Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over Yale on Friday evening at Princeton. With the win, the Wildcats advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Johnson put the Wildcats on the board just 39 seconds into the game, and Villanova maintained a 1-0 lead until the Yale goal in the 37th minute. The score was tied 1-1 going into the half, and remained so until Johnson beat a Yale defender from 20 yards out to score the game-winner with 11:33 remaining.

Villanova will face host Princeton at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 14 for the second round of the tournament. More details on the game will be available later this evening.
