Villanova, Pa. -
A goal by Bri Austin in the 67th minute made it a one-goal game but the Wildcats couldn’t capitalize to send the contest to overtime as St. John’s registered a 2-1 win over Villanova.
St. John’s moves to 7-8-1 on the year and 3-4 in conference play while the Wildcats are now 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the BIG EAST.
Just under two minutes into the second half the Red Storm jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Lucy Whipp broke way and took the ball down midfield. Once faced with a defender she cross the ball to Christina Bellero at the top corner of the box. Bellero got her cross shot to fall into the back of the net late in the 46th minute.
It was Whipp again who set up the play for St. John’s second goal. She crossed her kick into the center of the box and it found Zsani Kajan who was able to get her shot to go past Harris and give St. John’s a 2-0 lead.
Villanova answered back. Freshman Bri Austin netted her first career goal in the 67th minute. A ball came to senior Emily Kuefler who had the ball taken away by a Red Storm defender.
