A goal in the final minutes on the game gave the Creighton Bluejays a 1-0 win over the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
With the win Creighton moves to 3-9-3 overall and 1-3-2 in BIG EAST play while the Wildcats are now 6-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
In the 87th minute the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick that was taken by Emily Kuefler. Her shot was placed right on goal but Creighton’s McKenzie Meola drove and saved the shot to keep the game scoreless. Villanova was awarded a corner kick that was quickly kicked out of the box by the Bluejays and placed in front of Kaira Houser. Houser was able to break away and get her shot to fall in the in the right corner of the goal in the 88th to give Creighton the 1-0 lead.
Villanova took a season high 28 shots against the Bluejays placing six on goal. In 85th minute Natalie Fouque got a shot off but it went off the post while less than 10 minutes before Jessie Himel got a shot right on goal that Meola made a diving save to keep out.
The Wildcats will return home Thursday when the host the St. John’s Red Storm. Game time at Higgins is set for 4 p.m.
