Villanova, Pa. -

The Villanova Wildcats were on the brink of scoring late in the contest but couldn’t put in the equalizer as they fell to Xavier 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Higgins Soccer Complex.  Villanova drops to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Musketeers are now 7-4-2 and 3-0 in BIG EAST play.

It was in the 64th minute that Xavier netted what would be the game winner.  Tori Doss fed the ball from in left side of the box to Sydney Schembri who was one on one with Villanova keeper Emily Harris.  Schembri was able to tap the ball in on the right side and give the Musketeers a 1-0 lead.

Villanova had three strong opportunities in the final minutes, Emma Firenze placed one shot right one goal and Amanda Vocelka placed two right on target but Toni Bizzarro was able to save all three shots to make the final 1-0 Xavier.

The Wildcats will continue BIG EAST play next week, first they will travel to Seton Hall for a Thursday evening matchup before returning home Sunday to host the Georgetown Hoyas.
