Final Stats

Milwaukee, Wis. -

Senior Emily Kuefler netted two goals during the Wildcats 4-1 victory over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Thursday night.

This was the Wildcats first road win of the season and also the first win against Marquette in program history.

Villanova improves to 5-6 on the year and 1-1 in conference play, next they will host Xavier on Sunday afternoon.  Marquette moves to 7-4-1 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST play.

"This is the Villanova team that exist here, they have it within them," shared head coach Chris McLain. "When their is conformity and belief, these players can compete and excel in this team environment! Players worked for each other, they played to represent Villanova and for that they were rewarded! This win comes directly from the training ground, that's where our game plans come from."

The Wildcats got on the board just 17 minutes in when Kristin Barbour placed a cross right inside the box and Kuefler was there and able to get a header to fall.  Villanova would keep the 1-0 going into halftime.

It was just minutes into the second half that the Wildcats got their second goal.  This time it was Barbour who scored on a successful penalty kick to make the lead 2-0.

Amanda Vocelka was the next Villanova player to get in on the scoring action. She got a shot from just outside the box to go high over the head of Marquette's Maddy Henry to give the Wildcats a three goal lead.

In the 68th minute the Wildcats were rewarded a free kick at midfield.  Mandi Wilson placed the kick perfectly inside the box and Kuefler was able to nudge the ball in for the fourth Villanova goal of the night.

Marquette would get one goal.  It came off a Villanova own goal off a Marquette corner kick, this would make the final 4-1.

"Villanova have never beaten Marquette so this is a big achievement against such a strong program. Having Beard and Madden back from injury, we knew we had our hands full. But the players were prepared and now they know that will great preparation, great attitude, great approach... anything is possible," continued McLain.

Villanova's four goals in a BIG EAST road game are the most since they played at Providence in 1997.

Next the Wildcats will return home to host the Xavier Musketeers on Sunday, October 1st.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Higgins Soccer Complex.  This will be Villanova's annual "Kick It To Cancer" game, donations can be made here.
